Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department has been providing law enforcement, court security and detention services to Sonoma County since 1850. Today, the Department has over 1,000 employees, all working to serve a county that stretches across 1,600 square miles and a population of nearly half a million residents.
The Sheriff’s Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the unincorporated areas of the county as well as the cities of Windsor and Sonoma. Also called the River Substation, the Guerneville Substation is the base for patrol services in western Sonoma County. It covers the 63 miles of coastline to the west and to Forestville to the east. The staff at this substation includes two sergeants, 16 Deputy Sheriffs, three resident deputy sheriffs, and a community services officer.

From here, patrol services are provided from the Napa County line to the east to the mountain ridge between Petaluma and Sonoma to the west, Glen Ellen to the north, and San Pablo Bay to the south. There are two sergeants, 16 Deputy Sheriff’s, and one community services officer.

This is the flagship station of the Department’s “Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving” mission. The belief of the department is that crime prevention is a partnership between the police and the community. This unit is comprised of one sergeant, five deputies, and one community services officer. They also utilize volunteers to help accomplish goals and provide even more service to residents.
