The Santa Cruz Main Jail, is the main jail facility and the one in which most defendants are taken to. It is the county’s only booking facility. Santa Cruz main jail processes over 14,000 inmates a year with a daily population of approximately 400 inmates.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Department also includes a Corrections Bureau. The Corrections Bureau is responsible for operating four separate correctional facilities which are listed above. They also facilitate a Work Release Program for qualified individuals.
Additionally, the Santa Cruz Corrections Bureau provides prisoner transportation and court security services. All these jails are overseen by Chief Deputy Jeff Marshall. The Main Jail and the Blaine Street Jail are operated under the supervision of both Lieutenant James Hart and Lieutenant Greg Lansdowne.

Booking, Processing and Release Information
The Santa Cruz Jail facilities can take anywhere between 2 and 6 hours to have someone booked and processed. This includes the entering of the defendant into the system, taking their photograph and fingerprinting. The bail cannot be set until all of these are completed.
