 The Vista Detention Facility, otherwise known as VDF, is a Type II Facility. It serves as the primary intake facility for both male and female prisoners of Vista / North San Diego County.

The rated capacity is 820 beds by the Corrections Standards Authority. The Vista Detention Facility is the only one that receives and houses both male and female pre-trial arrestees on both felony and misdemeanor charges. 

The inmate population at VDF primarily consists of those awaiting court proceedings for North County cases.
