The Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation covers an area of 140 square miles, which is made up of the unincorporated communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall, De Luz and Rainbow. This is the San Diego Sheriff Department’s largest substation and it provides a wide array of services for their community including gang enforcement, COPPS, investigations, etc.

Fallbrook deputies handle over 1,200 radio calls from the public per month. They also enjoy a great track record for nearly matching that number in self-initiated activity contacts. Their deputies respond to calls for service, patrol the community, conduct preliminary investigations, attend Neighborhood Watch meetings and speak to youth groups and schools. They have also been well trained in the COPPS (Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving) philosophy. The Deputies use what they’ve learned to analyze community problems and employ strategic ways to solve them.

Fallbrook Sheriff Substation Detectives are responsible for investigating all general crime cases and arrests made by their patrol division. One of their star sheriffs, the late Deputy Pat Coyle (an avid flier who lost his life in the line of duty while investigating a crime as part of the SD Sheriff’s Aviation Unit) was instrumental in starting the station’s bicycle patrol.

But the Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation is probably best known to the outside world for providing protection at the Avocado Festival, an enormous annual event sponsored by the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce that attracts 70,000 visitors.

The Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation doesn’t have an on-site jail, so arrestees are most often taken to the San Diego Vista Detention Center after they’ve been booked into the system.
