Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility
1627 S. Hargrave Street
Banning, CA 92220

The Banning Police station does not have a jail facility, so if someone you know has been arrested by the Banning Police Department or Riverside Sheriff’s Department in the Banning area, chances are they were taken to the Smith Correctional Facility. The Smith Correctional Facility jail also serves other surrounding communities such as Beaumont and Cabazon. This jail provides back-up for other Riverside County jails. The jail facility is located just south of the 10 freeway off the Hargrave exit.
The Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility was built in the mid-1920’s and was originally called the “Industrial Road Camp.” It was used by prison road gangs and under control of the county road department. Recently, on October 29, 2002, the County Board of Supervisor’s passed a vote that officially changed the name of the facility to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility. It was in honor of Sheriff Larry D. Smith, who retired from duty in 2002.
