Auburn Police Department & Jail Information

Auburn Police Department
1215 Lincoln Way
Auburn, CA 95603

Auburn is the county seat of Placer County. It started out as a mining camp after gold was discovered in the area in 1848. Since then, its rich Gold Era history has drawn visitors to the area.

The officers of the Auburn Po lice Department work together with the community to help protect the lives and property of residents and visitors to the area. They provide 24-hour patrols and are the first responders to calls for service. There is an Investigation Division, Traffic Unit and SWAT team within the Department.

When someone is arrested in Auburn, they will be taken to the Placer County Jail for booking. This process will include fingerprinting, photographs, a background check and nationwide warrant search. Arrestees will be searched for drugs and contraband. Their personal property will be collected and held until they’re released from the jail. During this time, they will have access to a phone so that they may call loved ones, a lawyer or a bondsman.

Once they are completely booked in, the defendant’s bail will be set and when it is paid, they can be released from jail. If bail is not paid, they will have to spend the duration of their court case in jail.

Your Responsibilities

When you enter into a bail agreement with a bondsman, you become what is known as an “indemnitor.” You are agreeing to be the person responsible for the bail contract , fee and the defendant going to court.

By signing an agreement with a bail bondsman, you agree to pay the bail bond premium in full. This is the fee that is set by the state of California. It is equal to 10% of the total bail amount. This fee is non-refundable. Even if the defendant is found not guilty or charges are not filed, this fee must be paid.

It is your responsibility to make sure that, once released, the defendant shows up at any court appearances. If the defendant “fails to appear”, you are responsible to help the bondsman locate the individual and get him or her back into the court system within six months
