Napa County Sheriff’s Department

The Sheriff’s Department of Napa County has been in existence since 1853. The Department is strongly committed to protecting the communities and residents of Napa County.

The Department’s Operations Division includes Animal Services, Patrol Bureau, Investigations, Bicycle Patrol, Marine Patrol, Special Units and Special Investigations.

The Patrol Bureau provides law enforcement services to the unincorporated areas of Napa County. Thirty-five deputies are assigned to Patrol. Nearly 1/3 of the county’s 135,000 residents live within the Sheriff’s jurisdiction. Most of the deputies of the Patrol Bureau work from the Main Sheriff’s Office in Napa.

The Investigations Bureau of the NCSD is comprised of one detective sergeant, seven investigators, one ID technician and a secretary. They follow up on serious crimes involving rape, sexual assault, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, murder, manslaughter, questionable deaths and kidnappings.

The Marine Patrol services Lake Berryessa year round and will respond to emergencies during the night. They also respond to calls for service on the Napa River. They perform search and rescue, vessel accident investigations, enforce state and local laws, and boating safety.
