Napa County Jail

The Napa County Department of Corrections is responsible for overseeing the Napa County Jail. They coordinate all programs and services that relate to the institutional punishment, care, treatment and rehabilitation of inmates. This includes intake screenings, diagnosis and classification of inmates as well as alternative sentencing programs.

The Department of Corrections was formed in 1975. The Napa Correctional Facility is the first in the State of California to be a civilian-run facility. At this time it is one of only three facilities in the state that are not operated by the Sheriff’s Department.

This facility has the capacity to house 264 inmates. Both male and female inmates are held at this location. The different housing areas include temporary holding, observation cells, work furlough, general population, administration segregation, protective custody, maximum security, medical unit and solitary confinement.

Medical, mental health and dental services are given by an outside provider. A medical staff member is on duty 24-hours a day.

Several programs are offered to inmates while they are in custody at the Napa County Jail. These include Adult Education, GED, Alcoholics/ Narcotics Anonymous, Anger Management, Parenting, Bible Study, Private/ Group Counseling, Tutoring, etc.

Inmate Correspondence

Inmates will be provided two postage paid envelopes each week in order to permit correspondence with friends and family. Inmates are allowed to purchase stamped envelopes for correspondence as well. Inmates may receive unlimited amounts of mail. Magazines and newspapers must be sent directly from the publisher. Paperback books are only to be sent from Random House Publishing or Barnes and Noble.

Photographs sent can be no bigger than 5×7. Polaroid photos are not permitted. Greeting cards cannot be larger than 8 1/2 x 11 and cannot contain sound-making devices.

Inmates cannot receive mail containing:

  • cash or personal checks
  • potential security issues or evidence of a crime
  • nude photos, pornography, potentially offensive material
  • stickers, glue, excess foreign substances

Inmate Funds

Inmates are permitted to purchase items such as snacks, drink mixes, candy, dry soups and hygiene items from the commissary if they have funds. This can help them to feel more comfortable and give them a sense of self-sufficiency.

They can purchase up to $60 worth of items each week.  Phone cards may also be purchased so that they can make non-collect phone calls to loved ones.

Care packages for inmates can also be purchased through www.mycarepack.com. They will be delivered directly to NCDC.

Money can be deposited into an inmate’s account through the kiosk in the Hall of Justice, Monday-Friday, 8 am- 5 pm; via the internet at mycarepack.com; over the phone at 866-394-0490.

Visitation

If you wish to visit with an inmate at the Napa County Jail, you must have a valid photo ID. Inmates are allowed to have two visits each day, with a limit of four visitors at a time. Visitations are conducted Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.; 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
