Madera Police Department

Madera Police Department
330 South C Street
Madera, CA 93638
Phone: 559-675-4200

The officers of the Madera Police Department take their law enforcement duties seriously. They maintain open communication with residents throughout the community, working in partnership to improve the quality of life for all.

The two main divisions of the department are administration and operations. The Patrol division is the backbone of the department, providing service and protection to the citizens of Madera.

The Investigations unit in Madera is made up of five investigators and is headed up by a sergeant. The detectives follow up on preliminary investigations that have been conducted by first-responding officers. They will also gather intelligence, perform surveillance and respond to scenes of major crimes.

The MDP K9 unit has three trained canine teams. One is trained in locating explosives and apprehending suspects. The other two teams are trained for locating narcotics as well as apprehending suspects.

The Traffic Division consists of five motorcycle officers and one sergeant. Their goal is to lower the number of injuries and fatalities caused by traffic accidents.

If someone is arrested by the Madera Police Department, they will be taken to the Madera County Jail for booking. This process will consist of fingerprinting, photographs, background check and warrant search. This process could take several hours to complete, depending on how busy jail staff is at the time of booking.

Once the defendant has been booked completely into the system, they will be able to post bail, either with cash bail to the jail or courthouse or through the help of a bail bondsman.

Bail Responsibilities

When you enter into a bail agreement with a bondsman, you become what is known as an “indemnitor.” You are agreeing to be the person responsible for the bail contract and the defendant. By signing an agreement with a bail bondsman, you agree to pay the bail bond premium in full. This is the fee that is set by the state of California. It is equal to 10% of the total bail amount. This fee is non-refundable. Even if the defendant is found not guilty or charges are not filed, this fee must be paid.

It is your responsibility to make sure that, once released, the defendant shows up at any court appearances. If the defendant fails to appear, you are responsible to help the bondsman get the defendant back to court. Keep in mind that simple situations such as illness or flat tire are easy to rectify and fairly common.

You must make sure that the defendant’s information, such as address and employer, remain current.  If the defendant leaves town or “goes on the run,” it is your responsibility to notify the courts and bondsman of their whereabouts, if they are known to you.

Having a friend or family member in jail can put a lot of strain on you. This situation doesn’t have to be handled alone. We are here to help you in your time of need.
