The Southwest Community Police station has a jail, so arrestees who are taken there are booked into the system and locked up on the spot. If the defendant is female, however, they will likely be taken to the 77th Street Jail after booking. The time it takes to book a defendant varies widely at Southwest. It can be anywhere from 1 ½ to 24 hours, depending on the time of day a person is arrested and how busy the station is.
The Southwest Station is bordered by the I-10 Freeway on the North, I-110 Freeway on the east, Vernon Avenue on the south, and La Cienega Boulevard on the west.
This station, which was built in the 1960s, is one of the oldest in Los Angeles. It falls under the jurisdiction of South Bureau and it covers a community that is approximately 13.11 square miles in size.
