Fresno County Jail

Fresno County operates four separate jail facilities which house over 2,150 inmates. The Fresno County Jail Facilities are monitored by a total of 387 officers working three shifts. This means that for every shift, there are around 80 officers overseeing the large population of inmates.

The jail was opened in 1989. It is a 12-story facility with six floors. The facility houses medium and maximum security inmates, with a maximum population of 1,064. A system of security perimeters make escape from the jail extremely difficult.

North Annex Facility

This facility was built in 1993. It is a 5-story building with four floors with a maximum inmate population of 1,728. This jail is the newest of the four. It is built on the same security concepts of the Main Jail, but it uses the latest electronic technology.

South Annex Jail

The South Annex Jail was built in 1947 and consists of four floors. The maximum population at this facility is 675. This is the oldest and toughest of all the jails. Its security measures implement perimeters and 1/4″ case hardened steel to retain inmates.

Satellite Jail

Built in 1986, this jail is made up of four modular units with a maximum population of 200 inmates. The lowest level of security level of the Detention Bureau is at this facility. Inmates are sentenced to county time and are assigned to work on various work crews, cleaning roadways, gardening, etc.

Inmate Programs

Fresno Detention Programs are designed to help inmates become safe, self-sufficient, healthy, law-abiding citizens. The officers are committed to developing the inmate’s character. The Fresno County Jail offers inmates the chance to advance their education through the Delma Graves Adult School, handled by the Fresno County Office of Education. It offers programs such as Literacy, Adult Basic Education/ General Education Development, English as a Second Language and Personal Skills Development. The Life Skills courses include Cognitive Thinking, Work Attitude and Behavior, Relationships, Seeking Employment, Money Management, and Interpersonal Skills.

Other programs and services include Religious and Chaplains, Library, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous Meetings, Community Resources and Services, Health/ Wellness/ Recreation, Child Support Responsibility Information, and Marriages. All programs are offered to both sentenced and pre-sentenced inmates.

The facility also provides medical, dental and mental health services to inmates 24-hours a day.
