If you’ve been contacted by a friend or loved one because they need help arranging bail bonds, you’ll want to keep the following three things in mind.
First, ask the California bail bondsman how long the company has been in business. Bail bonds businesses that have years of experience will have a better understanding of what the jails want and how the bonds need to be filled out. An inexperienced bondsman is more likely to make mistakes.
Second, ask the bondsman if the company is open 24-7. Just because a bail bondsman in Los Angeles answers their phones 24 hours a day, it doesn’t always mean they can help post bail bonds 24-7. If the bail agent can’t help you immediately, hang up and call someone else.
Lastly, if the bondsman tells you they can expedite the bail bonds processes for an extra fee—buyer beware. This agent is more interested in getting their hands on your money than they are helping get your loved one out of jail. There is no fee that can make the arrest and/or booking process go any faster.
