If you’ve received a call from a friend or family member who has been arrested, you’ll want to follow these three tips to help ensure your loved one gets out of jail fast.
First, there is no need for you to go to the jail. Many people think they’ll need to go to the jail to get the bail bonds process started, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. When the defendant arrives at the jail, they will need to be booked and processed into the system, which generally takes between 4 and 6 hours. Once booking is complete and the bail bonds are posted, it will typically take another 4 to 6 hours for the defendant to be released. The lobby of the jail is not a fun or comfortable place to be; if you’re going to spend the next 8 to 12 hours pacing back and forth, you’ll be much more comfortable pacing back and forth in your living room than in the lobby of the jail.
Second, take down the details about the arrest. Find out when they were arrested, which jail they are at, what they’ve been charged with and how much the bail is. All of this information will be helpful when you contact a bondsman, and if you have this information out of the gate, it will save the bondsman a bit of time.
