How Bail Works

When you call Tonya Page Bail Bonds, you’ll need to be ready to answer a few questions to complete the bail application. We take into consideration how long you’ve been employed with your current employer, how long you’ve lived in California, your credit score, the sort of crime committed and other details.

We ask these questions to determine the risk factor and to see if you would qualify for a no-collateral bail bond. Both parties involved, indemnitor and defendant, go through this consideration process.

If you’re the one responsible for getting your friend of loved one released from jail, be sure that you understand and are aware of your bail bond indemnitor responsibility. As the indemnitor and one who signs the bail bond agreement, you are committing yourself to pay the entire bail bond amount should the defendant fail to appear for their scheduled court date and cannot be located.

Cost of Bail Bonds

With the economy as it is, many are feeling undue stress on their wallets and live paycheck-to-paycheck. Even a week away from work can mean disaster for a lot of families, and with backed up courts the time between arrest and sentencing could very easily allow one to fall behind on their bills and risk a loss of utilities, repossession, or even foreclosure.

Bail bonds allow you to pay a fraction of the cost of your bail amount, in California 10%, in return for immediate freedom on the expectation that you will arrive at your court date. For example, a bail amount of $5000 at the normal rate of 10% would amount to $500 out of pocket for you while the bail bond company covers the rest of the amount.

Many choose bail bonds because the small out of pocket fee allows them the ability to be with their family during the time they need them most. You don’t have to worry about expensive babysitters, providing dinner from a cell, or catching up on missed work because you’re out in the world doing the things you need to rather than sitting in jail for more time than necessary.

Understanding Collateral

Most of our clients don’t understand how collateral works with the bail bond process. Some believe they will have to put up their home, business or some sort of real estate as a form of collateral. However, in most cases we perform bail bond services without collateral. Generally, all we may need is a simple signature from a credible signer.

If used, collateral will be returned to the individual who guaranteed it once the defendant’s case has been resolved. In addition, all monies owed must be paid in-full.

We certainly understand there are those who do not have a perfect financial background; however, it is much easier than you think to qualify for a signature bond. Tonya Page Bail Bonds offers a variety of payment options and our licensed bail agents will be happy to assist you in arranging affordable bail bonds within the California law.

Call us now and we can determine in a matter of minutes if you’ll qualify for a no collateral bail bond. Our toll-free number is 1-877-861-3761 (1-877-861-3761).

San Francisco Jail Process

The defendant is taken to the San Francisco jail located at 435 7th Street for processing and booking, which can take approximately 4-8 hours. During this time, the defendant is photographed for their “mug shot”, all their personal possessions are removed, they will be fingerprinted and other warrant checks and booking processes will be conducted. They will be eligible for bail once all the booking procedures are completed.

To set the bail amount, the jail employees will use the San Francisco Bail Schedule, which is adopted by county judges on an annual basis. This is the time that you typically will receive a phone call from the defendant while in jail to contact a bail bondsman and make arrangements for their release. The fee for using a bail bondsman is 10% of the entire bail amount. For example, if bail is set at $20,000, your fee to the bondsman will be $2,000. Once the fee is paid, the bondsman will go to the jail and “post” the bail bond. Typically, the defendant is released within 2 to 4 hours.

Time is of essence if you’re in need of getting someone released from the San Francisco jail. If they are not released in a timely manner, they stand a chance of being transferred to other jails in San Francisco, which can add a considerable amount of time to them being released. Call us immediately to avoid unnecessary time spent in jail, toll-free at 1-877-861-3761.
