Sheriff Station & Jail Information

South County - Roger Barber Patrol Station
250 Franciscan Way
King City, CA 93930
Phone: 831-385-8312

The South County Station, also known as the Roger Barber Patrol Station, operates out of King City. The officers of this station serve the largest geographical portion of Monterey County, over 55%. To serve this area efficiently, the station has it divided into three sections.

The residential population in South County is about 22,000. During peak travel times, like summer and holidays, the number of people in the area increases greatly. The economy in South County is mainly agriculture-based with row crops, vineyards and cattle farms. It can be a very idyllic place to live and visit.

Sometimes, though, loved ones can find themselves in a situation that ends with a ride to jail. If they are arrested in the South County area, they will be taken to the Monterey County Jail for the booking process. This will include fingerprinting, photographs, background checks, and a warrant search. Once booking is complete, bail will be set and we can get to work right away on a bail bond for the Monterey County Jail.

How Is Bail Set?

In California, bail is set on a county-by-county basis. For King City and all of Monterey County,  judges will set an annual bail schedule. This will set the standard for bail amounts to be used by law enforcement for different charges and circumstances. The judge will always consider public safety first and foremost. Crimes that have an effect on public safety will have a higher bail amount.

The amount of bail may also be higher for repeat offenders. If two different individuals are arrested for DUI, the first-time offender will have a lower bail amount, as opposed to the other who has had a prior DUI conviction.

Extenuating circumstances will also increase the amount of bail. For example, if someone is arrested for DUI and they caused an accident, injury, or death, then the amount will be higher.

What Happens If Not Bailed Out?

If the defendant is not bailed out, they will stay in jail until they see a judge. This happens within three business days (meaning arrested on a Thursday night, will see a judge by Tuesday). At arraignment, the judge could decide to release the defendant on their Own Recognizance ("OR"), where no bail will be needed. The judge could also decide that the defendant will be remanded, which means they cannot post bail. If that is the case, they will spend the duration of the court proceedings in jail. The judge has complete latitude and could raise the bail or lower the bail.
