Opened in 1985, the Placer County Jail main detention facility is currently rated to house 352 inmates.  The facility consists of three medium-security dorms and one maximum-security module.

The minimum-security buildings are renovated WWII Army warehouses built in 1941 and has one housing unit for females, and two housing units for males. It has the capacity to house up to 160 inmates. The total housing capacity for the Placer County Jail is 512 and is at 90% capacity daily.

Electronic home monitoring, work release, work furlough, Outside Journey, and drug court are all Community Corrections programs offered by the Placer County Corrections as an alternative to incarceration.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for overseeing the  jail and maintaining a humane facility, as well as ensuring the safety of employees and the community.

Inmate visitation at this facility must be scheduled in advance by calling between 6:00 am and 12:00 pm on the day of the visit to set an appointment. A visitation schedule can be obtained by calling the jail.

The jail facilitates a telephone debit account program that allows the inmates family and friends to add funds to a telephone debit account. Accounts are linked to the inmate’s ID and can be used to call any telephone number that isn’t blocked by the system.

The jail also facilitates Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.  Inmates are also allowed  access to bible study, the law library and GED training.
