Early Release For Inmates In San Bernardino County Jails

It was reported that San Bernardino County Jails have begun to release prisoners early.

Approximately 150 inmates are scheduled to be released due to overcrowding brought on by the state’s prisoner realignment program. Under that program the state is required to reduce its statewide inmate population in its 33 prisons to 137.5 percent of design capacity by June 2013.

Realignment, the cornerstone of the state’s plan to reduce inmate overcrowding without releasing any inmate prior to completion of his or her sentence, began Oct. 1. Because of that, officials say, all persons convicted of non-violent, non-serious and non-sexual offenses will serves their sentences in county, not state, prisons.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Rod Hoops said that the inmates released have served “at least half” of their sentences and had less than 30 days remaining.

Illegal Bail Bond Practices in San Bernardino

Four people pleaded guilty on Friday after a two-year long investigation for running illegal bail bond practices. A former sheriff’s son, along with three other people were named in a major investigation in San Bernardino County.

The four who pleaded guilty worked at Boones’ Bail Bond. The Sheriff’s Department found evidence they paid inmates to help them make money by soliciting business to others in jail. According to California bail laws, this is not only unethical, but highly illegal. The other defendant’s involved in the case took plea bargains, each pleading to one misdemeanor count.

San Bernardino Bail Company Accused of Bail Solicitation

This week, San Bernardino Sheriff detectives served a search warrant to Bail Hotline, a bail bonds company out of Rancho Cucamonga. 

The warrant was served after word spread that the agency was violating bail solicitation rules with regard to soliciting inmates and having inmates solicit business for them in return. The case is currently being investigated by the county District Attorney’s office for violations.
