The San Luis Obispo County Jail correctional facility serves all of San Luis Obispo County for arrests transported from city police departments, California Highway Patrol, and State Parks. 

Approximately 19,000 people are booked into the San Luis Obispo county jail each year. Inmates can serve up to one year in the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

The various housing units at the SLO jail range from direct supervision units to dormitory settings and can house up to 518 inmates.

When arrested in SLO, inmates will be booked and processed in the jail’s computer system. This process will usually include photographs, fingerprints and a nation wide background check . This process can take up to 4 hours to complete.

Rules for visiting the San Luis Obispo Jail

Inmates are allowed to receive (2) one hour visits per week. There is no male visiting on Mondays and no female visiting on Fridays.

It is best to call the jail for all instructions prior to your visit to reserve a visiting time. If you are unable to notify the inmate prior to the visiting day, you may call (805) 781-4596 to reserve that time.
