Hi, I am hoping you can help me. My cousin was arrested in Los Angeles last night and his bail was set at $800. Since the fee for bail bonds in California is 10%, I know I’d need to pay $80 to get him out. I have the $80 but I haven’t been able to find a bondsman who is willing to help. Are there any bail bonds companies in Los Angeles that will help me?

Defendants who have small bail amounts are generally advised to post cash bail. In this case, that would involve putting the full $800 up with the jail, in cash. This will allow your cousin to be released from jail pending court. As long as they finish their case, the cash bail will be refunded to whoever put it up, less court administrative fees, once the case is over.  The reason you are having such a hard time finding a bondsman who will help you with an $800 bail, is because it will cost more for the bondsman to transact the bond than they can legally collect on it.
