You’ve Been Arrested – Now What?

In California, bail bond companies require you pay 10 percent of the set amount of bail in order to get you out of jail.  The amount of your bail will be set by the court and will be based on the crime for which you’ve been charged.  Lesser crimes will have lower bail amounts, whereas bail for more serious crimes will set higher.

If your bail is set at $10,000, does that mean you need to pay the full amount to get out of jail?  Not necessarily.  Although that option is certainly available, by working with a licensed California bail bondsman you’ll only need to come up with $1000.  If you’re unable to pay that amount in full, bail bond payment options may be available. Keep in mind, though that just because a person is released on bail that does not mean the charge(s) will immediately vanish. They will still need to appear in court date where the presiding judge will decide your case.  It could be dismissed, he or she may assign probation, and in some cases, the defendant may need to serve time.
