The facility opened in 1963, and up unitl 1983 the sheriff’s deputies worked on shift rotations in order to oversee the jail operations. After 1983, correctional officers were assigned to maintaining the supervision of the jail population. The jail has facing a growing population, additions have been made in order to accommodate the growth.
Anyone arrested in Calaveras County will likely be taken to the Calaveras County Jail for booking and processing. This process will consist of fingerprinting and photographs, background checks, as well as a nationwide warrant search. The booking process can take approximately 2 to 4 hours, depending how busy the jail is at the time.

Males
Sunday: 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Females
Saturday: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Tuesday: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Inmate Workers
Monday – Friday: 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
- All inmates are allowed one 30 minute visit per day. Special visits are allowed upon the permission of the Jail commander or their Supervisor.
- All visitors must sign in by signing the inmate visiting card located at the front counter. A photo ID with a current address will be required when signing in for visits.
- Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If a visitor under the age of 18 is without a parent or guardian, they must have the permission of the Jail Commander or his designee.
- Visitors must submit to a search of belongings. A pat down search will be done if there is a suspicion of contraband being taken into the visiting area. Your visit will be denied if you refuse to be searched upon request.
- The only items allowed in the visiting area will be your keys, ID, and a small wallet. No other personal belongings will be allowed.
- During the visit note writing and sign language will not be allowed in order to communicate unless the inmate or visitor is hearing impaired. Violation of this rule will result in termination of the visit.
- Any inmate released from the Calaveras County Jail , whose case has not been adjudicated will be denied visits.
- Anyone who has been in custody at the Calaveras County Jail within the last 90 days will be denied visits.
