The Merced County Main Jail houses both sentenced and pre-sentenced inmates. There are two facilities for Merced, the Main Jail and the John Latorraca Correctional Facility. The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for overseeing both jails and maintains the overall safety of inmates and staff. The Merced County arrestees will be transported to one of the detention facilities for booking. The booking process consists of fingerprinting, photographs (mug shot), a background check and nationwide warrant search, this could take several hours to complete.

- All Inmates must fill out an inmate request form in order to receive a visit.
- Prior to the scheduled visit, all visitors must be cleared and placed on the imates visitor list. (Inmates are allowed a maximum of two visitors on their list at one time.)
- At the time of the visit, all vistors must present a valid State or Government issued Drivers License or ID.
- All personal belongings should be left in your vehicle. The only items allowed are your keys and photo ID.
- Inmates are allowed one visit per day and a maximum of two vistors at once. Each visit will last 30 minutes.
- Children under the age of 12 will not be allowed.
- Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guradian.
- Anyone not visiting must remain in their vehicles and will not be allowed in the visiting lobby.
