The  Merced County Main Jail houses both sentenced and pre-sentenced inmates.  There are two facilities for  Merced, the Main Jail and the John Latorraca Correctional Facility.  The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is responsible for overseeing both jails and maintains the overall safety of inmates and staff.  The Merced County arrestees will be transported to one of the detention facilities for booking. The booking process consists of fingerprinting, photographs (mug shot), a background check and nationwide warrant search, this could take several hours to complete.

Recent Bail Bonds Scam Not New

Residents of Douglas County, Kansas were warned on last week of a recent bail bonds scam that has been taking place.  A con artist posing as a sheriff’s employee contacted a manager of a local business by phone. They were asked to withdraw cash in the amount of $1,634 and wire the money in order to pay for the employee’s bail bond.  It was mentioned that the employee was arrested for DUI and child endangerment.  After becoming suspicious of the incident, the manager contacted the employee by text, only to find out that they had not been arrested.  Once the con artist was questioned further by the manager, he hung up.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for overseeing the  jail and maintaining a humane facility, as well as ensuring the safety of employees and the community.

The facility is made up of different housing areas include temporary holding, observation cells, work furlough, general population, administration segregation, protective custody, maximum security, medical unit and solitary confinement.
