Any person arrested in El Dorado County will be held in custody at one of the two detention facilities in the county one is Placerville, the other facility is the South Lake Tahoe jail.

Anyone arrested in the area near Placerville will be taken to this facility for booking.  The facility has the capacity to house 265 sentenced and presentenced inmates for both men and women

The Custody Division of the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office maintains the care and custody of the inmates as well as building a structured environment providing them the opportunity for self-improvement by offering programs and services.

Visiting Placerville Jail

HOURS:

Monday Thru Saturday
8:30 am to 11:00 am
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Tuesday, Wednesday
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

RULES:

  • Only one visitor per inmate at one time, with the exception of a minor who may be escorted.
  • Each visitor is allowed two, one-hour visits per week.  Any visit less than one hour counts as the entire hour.
  • The visiting week begins on Monday and ends on Saturday.
  • Inmate workers are allowed an unlimited amount of visits per week, but each visitor is limited to one hour per day.  An inmate will not be pulled away from their workstations for visits.
  • All visitors will be required to show proper identification prior to visiting, such as:  Drivers License, Birth Certificate with  ID, etc.
  • Any visitor under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while in the facility, unless visiting their parent.
  • No food, beverage, or smoking will be permitted in the facility.
  • No handbags, purses, or carry- items will be permitted in the visiting area.
  • The facility dress code is strongly enforced and is as follows for visitors, the general public, and volunteers:   No bare backs, chests, or abdomens, no tank tops, half tops, halter-tops, spaghetti straps, or bathing suits, no short shorts, skirts, or dresses, no sheer or revealing, low cut garments, no gang attire allowed.
  • Staff will not pass on or deliver messages to inmates.
  • Any visitor observed in inappropriate sexual behavior, or any type of indecent exposure, may be permanently banned from visiting.

Failure to comply to the jail visiting policies will result in loss of visiting privileges to both inmate and visitor.
