San Diego PD Welcomes New Leadership to Northwestern Division

January 29th, 2011

There’s a new Captain in town, and his name is Albert Guaderrama. He’s only been in Carmel Valley for three weeks, but Captain Guaderrama has made a smooth transition to the SDPD Northwestern Division. Also joining the Department is newly appointed Lieutenant, Jerry Mills.

We are going to take  a community police approach… You’re going to see a lot of us out in the community. We want to focus on prevention and teach people to be a hard target for crime,” stated Guaderrama.

Both Guaderrama and Mills are ready to hit the ground running by working with residents along with the entire community.

Guaderrama replaced Captain, Miguel Rosario who is now a part of the Southern Division of the San Diego Police Department.  Guaderrama comes from a long line of family in law enforcement. Both his father and brother are police officers. His wife is a San Diego homicide detective.

Lieutenant Mills also has a 28 year history devoted to law enforcement.  His wife is a Northern Division police officer, his father-in-law is a policeman and his son works in the Southeastern Division on patrol.

Both of the men agree that quality of life issues are the most important to the community.

Carmel Valley is said to have a very low crime rate, trending downward overall in the city.  A major addition and successful installation to the Northwestern Division last year was a prescription drug drop-off location. It’s open 24 hours a day for the public to safely drop off and dispose of any medications.

Mills stated, “People may not understand how prevalent abuse of prescription drugs is amongst our kids. It’s not just a matter of cleaning out your medicine cabinet.

With concerns of budget cuts and the effect of Prop D on the police Department, Guadarrama doesn’t believe the department will be impacted. “This is a great division with the committed, outstanding officers here… They do a great job working with the community and I don’t see us being affected at all.

Here’s wishing good luck and great work to Captain Guadarrama and Lieutenant Mills!
