Vista Jail Bail Information
Operated by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, the Vista Detention Facility (VDF) is the primary jail for male and female prisoners in north San Diego County. VDF is the only facility that receives and houses both male and female pre-trial arrestees who are there on felony and misdemeanor charges. This jail also handles inmates with medical challenges – both mental and physical, has an administrative segregation unit, and contains defendants facing high-publicity trials.
Vista Jail Visiting
- A defendant is not allowed to have visitors if they must go to court on that same day.
- Visitors must check in together at least an hour before the time they are scheduled to visit. If a visitor is late, the visit may be cancelled.
- Only 3 visitors (including children) may visit an inmate at any one time and just one visit is allowed per day. Children must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.
- We have visiting areas that are handicap accessible.
- Social visits may be monitored or recorded at the Watch Commander’s discretion.
- The Watch Commander must first approve visitors who are on probation. Visitors who were convicted of a felony and who served time in a state prison also cannot enter a county jail without permission.
- Inmates are allowed two, thirty-minute social visits a week.
- Working inmates may receive extra visiting time, but it is dependent upon their work schedule.
- Social visits are conducted using telephone handsets and visitors are separated from inmates by a glass window.
- Reservations to visit the VDF should be made 24 hours in advance. Visitors must provide their DOB, full name, address and phone number in order to secure a reservation.
- Any visitor who is age 16 or older must show an unexpired picture ID at reception.
- Walk-in visits are accepted on a first come, first serve basis, but visitors must check in one hour prior to their visit.
- Once a visit is scheduled, no “add-ons” are allowed by phone.
- Visits might be changed or cancelled without notice, either for facility security or disciplinary reasons.
- Disruptive visitors may be asked to leave or they will be subject to arrest.
